Abstract
Background: The waste issue in Indonesia is still a problem that has not been resolved until now. Waste that is not managed properly (37.46%) can cause various environmental and public health problems. Aim: to determine the effect of a psychoeducational training program on the level of public health in Karang Intan Village. Method: This research used a pre-experimental study design with a pre-post-test without control group of 30 people with purposive sampling technique. There were 3 stages of intervention given to respondents, namely (1) psychoeducation, (2) compost fertilizer processing practices, and (3) water purification training. Before and after the intervention, measurements were taken using questionnaires and observation sheets. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. Result: The results showed that of the 30 participants, 13 participants experienced an increase in their understanding of managing waste, 4 participants experienced a decrease, and 13 participants had the same score between the pre-test and post-test. The Wilcoxon test value produces Z = -1.814 with a significance of 0.000 (< 0.05), which means there is a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test values. Conclusion: Participatory methods that combine theory and practice have proven effective in building awareness and changing community behavior.
